A Lamp for the Step

Psalm 119:105 ESV

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

John 8:12 ESV

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

A lamp does not show you the whole year. It shows you the next step. That can feel like too little when you want the map. God has rarely handed His people the end of the road before the walking. He gives light enough not to stumble, and He gives Himself. Jesus did not say the path would be bright all the way to the horizon. He said whoever follows Him will not walk in darkness. If you can see only the step under your feet, that is not a sign you missed Him. It may be the mercy of enough light for today. Follow that.

1
Take the lit step

Read Psalm 119:105 and write the one next step you can actually see, not the whole outcome.

2
Follow Him in it

Do that step today as an act of trust, and leave the unlit part with Him.

Lord, I want the whole path, and You have given me a lamp. I receive it. Your word is enough light for my feet. Jesus, You are the light of the world, so I am not guessing in the dark when I follow You. Show me the step that belongs to this day. Keep me from inventing a future You have not spoken, and keep me from refusing the light I already have. I trust You with what I cannot see. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105 ESV
